Our family tradition has always been to get close and extended family together for a potluck meal for any holiday and many times for no reason. Its staying connected as family that is most important to us.
The kids love to decorate eggs and have an egg hunt.
My Spring traditions have always been to start Spring cleaning and decorating the house with Spring colors and accessories, bringing in fresh flowers, cooking and baking fresh Spring foods for my family.
Happy Spring, Janet Westrup.
I loved going on spring walks picking wildflowers and sitting on the swing under the large maple tree with my mother who passed away in December.
I loved preparing the garden for early spring planting.
My mom and I will spend spring days outside in the garden getting it ready for planting or just sitting out on the swing together just enjoying Gods creation. We like to watch the flowers God created bloom over time just as a girl blooms into womanhood. This is what my mom and I like to do in the spring time.
My husband and I began camping b.c. before children and then about 4 years ago we started campming this time with our girls and they LOVED it. We began tent camping and then bought a pop-up and it has began a new family tradition that we have even introduced to my mom and sister. We actually were blessed to take my mom camping for her first time! She LOVED it too. I feel like we’ve gone back in time when we are camping and highly recommed it to everyone, there is no better place to build family relationships and memories in my mind than spending time together, unpluuged and with those you love sourrounded by God’s creation.
I love to changing my linens to spring motifs. Right now I’ve got out my butterflies for the guest bathroom, and pink roses for mine. I like to put up corresponding artwork as well. Then I love to plan and decorate around the festivities of spring. Our family loves the warmer breezes so we can get out and observe nature unfolding around us. It’s such a wonderful time of new growth and life!
Spring Cleaning!! I love spring cleaning in so many ways. Our family loves to get rid of the old and it makes us appreciate all that God has blessed us with. Also, getting ready for planting time is so much fun because of all the planning and discussion of what we’d like to try new on our plate from our vegetables this year. Last, but not least, nature journaling. Here in the north of the U.S. it hard to take little ones out in the brisk weather to journal and spring brings us back out.
It was always a time for my family to spend more time outside. We would start getting the garden ready. My mom would cut some pussy willows and bring them inside. Then we would make that intou our Easter tree. Another favorite was decorating eggs.
When I was young my mother or grandmother always made me a new dress for Easter. Now I have tried to continue that tradition with my 2 daughters. I am not always able to make the outfit, but we do try to make sure they have something new and pretty to wear for Easter Sunday. I feel very blessed to be able to do this and pray that we can continue this tradition.
Spring is the time to refresh our home. My daughter is really into mimicking mommy’s actions and at 5 she is a big help in cleaning out closets, storing winter clothing and doing the dusting around the home. It’s a sweet time for doing a lot of Mommy and daughter things together. And the entire family gets very exciting about our vegetable garden so it’s out into the wet soggy yard for us. Usually mommy is the one tilling soil etc while father and daughter blow large bubbles and fly kites!
I grew up in a Jewish home so spring for us always meant Passover. We would combine spring cleaning with our holiday preparation. Now that I am a Christian, my husband and I still celebrate Passover (the Last Supper was a Passover celebration) with our 2 daughters. This yr we will begin a new tradition by celebrating it with our Church! We are really looking forward to it!
Ann
We would color eggs and have an egg hunt after church outside the church.
With my own kids, we don’t have any spring traditions but now would be a good time to start them.
As far as tradition goes, my grandma would attend church with us every sunday and we would eat sunday dinner at her home. For Easter, she would make up baskets for us with store bought candines and her homemade candies. My favorite were the orange creme filled chocolates.Yum! I should make these for my own kids sometime.
Ooo! Please enter me! How lovely!!! One of my favorite traditions about springtime is picking a few early blooms from the almond, cherry, or peach trees and pressing them between my Jane Austen novels.
Many Blessings,
Grace
Spring cleaning and working on the garden. Spending more time outside including dinner al fresco. Lightening up things around the house and open windows.
We read about Christ rising from the tomb and make the Easter Cookies. We are not visited by an Easter ‘bunny’ – rather mom and dad give gifts. We keep away from chocolate bunnies but our children love to receive chocolate crosses. Of course, the children like to receive a new shirt or dress for easter.
My favorite spring tradition is packing up a picnic supper to take to the park when Daddy gets home, so that we can drive through the beautiful country and see all of the beautiful spring flowers!
Spring is my favorite time of the year! I feel like I’m coming out of a dormant state along with all of nature, and I feel more alive in the spring than any other time.
I love the springtime, when summer is just around the corner. Tradition for us is getting out all the seed catalogs and getting our garden all planned out. The whole family is involved in saying what they want to grow this year. I look forward to it every year.
My favorite was Palm Sunday. We got to get dressed up and carry a Palm Leaf in church. It’s a spring memory/tradition that I loved as a child.
I love to decorate for each season and in the past few days I have lightened up the house for spring! Spring flowers, birds, and spring signs brighten after a dark cold winter. Even if the weather is still cold and dreary we are waiting eagerly for warmer days!
My favorite Spring tradition was going to the fabric store with my Grandma to pick out a pattern and fabric for a new Easter dress to wear to church.
We go around nature taking pictures of the first signs of Spring that we see. We also lay back and cloud watch.
my sisters and I like to dress up in our favorite dresses and go on picnics out in the field behind our house. We also love dressing up for easter and palm sunday. Please enter me!!!!
One of my favorite parts of spring is the birdsong! When I am awakened by the robin’s “dawn” song and hear the purple finches singing, I know that spring has come! It’s always so exciting to see the daffodils and crocus popping up and see all the birds returning to my feeder.
Every year, we plant wheat grass seeds in baskets. By Easter, the grass is tall and thick. I make little crosses out of twigs and string and put them in the baskets. One year we gave several away as Easter gifts.
A new tradition that I just began last year is to have an Anne of Green Gables tea party with my friends, complete with Anne’s buttercup cake and an afternoon of wandering through the open space by my house!
~Happy Spring!
I enjoy the daffodils, they always seem so cheery.
My little girls and I go for a nature walk and look for all the signs of spring. We also have some favorite Easter books (Peter’s First Easter and The Legend of the Easter Eggs) we like to read.
We open our windows! It clears out the old winter air, and everything feels so new and fresh
My sister and I have a special spring tea party picnic on the first warm day of spring. We dress up like Anne of Green Gables and make beautiful hors’devores and such. It is so much fun!
Spring is the time my family starts to think about gardening. We spend many of our evenings together pouring over the seed catalogues that come in the mail, and then we start collecting seeds to begin growing for our garden in the Summer. Soon, all of our windowsills become crammed with little seedlings of tomatoes, peppers and watermelon. It is quite a special affair, and all of us find fun in it.
God bless!

My daughter was just telling me what she likes about spring/Easter and how we celebrate it, so let me share that. She likes to get dressed up in a pretty dress/outfit, go to a great Easter Sunday morning church service, color eggs, go to a nearby church’s egg hunt, eat a chocolate bunny, and more. We enjoy celebrating God’s blessings as each spring gives us a new beginning! Blessings!
We usually open the windows and let the fresh air in. I usually start clearing up the leaves and such out of the flower beds and start preparing to plant new flowers and contemplate what to plant in the garden area.
We like to celebrate the first day of Spring by having an egg hunt, decorating, and doing the world’s version of “easter”. We celebrate new life and signs of spring. We thank God for new life. This gets all the hoopla and bunnies out of the way and leaves us to really focus on Christ’s crucifixion and resurrection for Resurrection Sunday.
I just found your lovely website and magazines! I love to be outside working in the soil as soon as the weather turns warm. The wonderful fresh scent of the earth and the dark color of freshly turned soil is such a tonic to my soul after spending the winter indoors.
My favorite spring tradition is for my 4 daughters to begin wearing white shoes and purses again and frilly dresses at church.
The main tradition we have would be easter. Last year my dh bought me “special” plates that I could use for our Easter dinner every year. They are only used on this special day.I also make a cake like my grandmother used to make with 7-minute icing. It is like having a part of her with us on that day.
Oh what an awesome giveaway!
I SO love the end of the long frozen winter – I always feel like I’m coming back to life right along with the flora and fauna. We’re a baseball loving family so one of our favorite traditions is getting to watch the spring training baseball games in Clearwater! It’s like a happy little preview of summer.
Well, the only spring traditions I can remember is what my family does for me and my sister’s birthdays, since we were both born in spring
What we usually do for those is: have what ever we want for dinner (which usually means going out to eat, with either her or I picking the restaurant). Though, one time when we were short on money, I chose to have Mom make me dinner and a cake
I also requested we go on a walk around town. That was a nice birthday). We also usually have a cake either homemade or store bought. When we were little we used to get to take our birthday money and buy what ever we wanted with it
(presents are usually involved too
We used to go to chuck E Cheese back when we were real little too).
And when we were young Mom would buy us dresses for Easter and sometimes did an Easter egg hunt in the backyard for us
Coloring eggs, decorating the house for Easter, etc. We also used to go get our picture taken every spring
Hi!
Here’s my entry for the giveaway:
Every year (starting last year) my best friend and I (and our sisters) have a Handmade Spring Swap. She lives in PA so we’ve never met but we’ve been friends for almost two years. Last year we gave eachother handmade ‘springy’ items (among others, she gave me a robin she had knit and I gave a bluebird I had sewn.). This year, we are planning to have a Spring Swap with our novels and another handmade item (we both wrote novels in NaNoWriMo!)! This is so fun and it’s great to have something that my best friend made.
Also, my sister and I are planning a Spring/Summer show about the fairies of ballets (the Lavender fairy in Sleeping Beauty for example) and we will choreograph our dances and make costumes. We have a yearly show, either in spring/summer or on Christmas Eve.
Also (sorry this is so long!), for Easter, I like to read the story of Easter in all versions of the Bible I have (NIV and Message). I like spending time with my God outside, talking and thanking. For Palm Sunday, my family and I make ‘Palm branches’ out of twigs and paper.
I want to thank you for the giveaways. I’d loooove to read your magazine! It looks so amazing! God bless!
Emma
We, of course, enjoy coloring easter eggs together, then hiding and hunting them. We also enjoy the 12 egg devotional..each egg has a treasure inside and a devotion to go along with it.
I have also started making resurrection cookies. They have been a fun addition as you make them the night before and in the morning when you wake up you get too open the oven and see what you have.
Family time is also important to us. We usually try to spend a little time with each side of the family..a little with my parents and relatives and a little with my husbands family. That sometimes makes for a crazy day but it is nice that we live close enough to all to be able to celebrate together.
We are truly blessed and God is good!
I always enjoy making spring sugar cookies of chicks, flowers, or lambs. Then I let my children frost them in pretty shades of frosting. Once they are cooled and the frosting set we’ll go on a little nature walk taking along our spring cookies and find a nice shady tree and enjoy the fruits of their labor. Then we’ll hunt wild flowers and bring back a pretty bouquet to remember our outing.
Planning and starting the garden. Oh, and opening the windows and letting the fresh air in!
Spring is a time of renewal at our home. We love preparing the flower beds and our many pots for planting a variety of beautiful flowers. It is so much fun to be outdoors in the cool spring air! We look forward to watching our flowers bloom and grow as the weeks go by.
My daughter and I continue to make fresh bread, and we love when the house fills with the smell of our fresh oatmeal bread.
We also enjoy beginning our preparations for Easter. We do enjoy decorating eggs for a fun hunt with the family. However, most importanly, the entire family loves the journey of doing the twelve eggs about the Resurrection takes us on. We are reminded this time of year especially, as we should be everyday of the year, of Christ’s sacrifice and His amazing love for us all!
Visiting the Botanical Gardens for a walk and a boat ride, including a lovely lunch of croissant sandwiches, potato salad, desert and tea.
My girls and I love to go out and cut fresh new greens from trees and bring them indoors, it livens up our tables and keeps us going back for more of the new! We also wait for the warm days and start doing our daily readaing time outside with our afteernoon snacks. It’s like a mini picnic everyday, then we will just lay back and let the warm sunshine soak into our skin and warm us all over. We love ethese beautiful spring days!
I love playing bells in church, especially on Easter Sunday where we always play the hymn “Christ, The Lord is Risen Today.” I have been playing bells for seven years and now I have the blessed opportunity to direct the little children at rehearsal so they can also play that beautiful hymn for this year’s Easter Sunday.
